Adoption Sales Representative

The Adoption Sales Representative reports to the Adoption Sales Manager and is responsible for achieving textbook sales targets by securing adoptions of higher education textbooks and digital solutions with colleges, universities, and high schools across the United States and Canada. This includes emailing, calling, and visiting instructors on-site, sampling textbooks for review and consideration, conducting sales presentations (both virtual and on-campus), following up with key decision-makers to secure the adoption, and strengthening relationships between faculty and Bloomsbury Academic. This position requires the incumbent to visit campuses in an assigned territory. Travel to conferences is also required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Meet/exceed sales targets in the assigned territory.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow strong, positive relationships with faculty, staff, and administration at all schools within the assigned territory to grow sales and achieve targets.
  • Secure the broadest number of adoptions possible by framing Bloomsbury titles as the ideal pedagogical solution.
  • Identify and develop new relationships with potential customers, ensure customer needs are understood, and select appropriate product solutions to meet those needs.
  • Work across Bloomsbury departments to ensure key features and benefits of all textbooks are identified, understood, and ready to be shared with instructors during calls and visits.
  • Communicate textbook feedback to sales manager and editors in the US and the UK.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all examination requests in designated territory and follow up with instructors.
  • Attend academic conferences and trade shows throughout the year.
  • Produce weekly and monthly sales updates for distribution to management.
  • Consistently track sales activity through CRM system and ensure that a robust territory pipeline is built and maintained.
  • Process orders, respond to queries from customers and work closely with the distribution center, feeding back to sales ops to ensure an optimized supply chain.
  • Work with schools to encourage inclusive access models, direct sales to students and other initiatives as identified.
  • Consistently improve product knowledge.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years of sales experience—preferably in the academic market—with an exceptional performance record
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and resources
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to notice trends and sales cycles based on adoption buying
  • Collaborative and competitive spirit with the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities to meet common and individual goals and quotas


Bloomsbury has adopted a hybrid work policy comprising of two days in-office work and three days of remote work. Candidates residing in NY, NJ, or CT must be able to commute to Bloomsbury’s New York City office on a mutually agreed-upon schedule for in-office work. Full-time remote work might be available for candidates residing in PA, NC, FL, NH, or IL.
