Account Manager (Outside)

Position Description:

The Field Account Manager is responsible for selling the company’s products to school districts in a specific geographic area and achieving monthly, quarterly, and annual targets. This success is achieved by utilizing the company’s prescribed sales process, productivity tools, product messaging and pricing models.

The Field Account Manager is accountable for the renewal business of the assigned territory for both subscription licenses and annual support renewals.

This is a regular full-time, exempt position. The Field Account Manager reports directly to the VP of K-12 Sales or the Regional Sales Manager and is located strategically within a particular geographical territory at a home office location.The Field Account Manager has no supervisory responsibilities.


  • Sell products and services by developing relationships with school district superintendents, assistant superintendents, Title I / Curriculum / Technology Directors, school principals, etc. across assigned accounts in territory.
  • Deliver high quality product presentations, varying in length from an “elevator pitch” to more detailed, hands-on demonstrations that focus on key product features, differentiated research and competitive positioning.
  • Work with marketing and Account Development Specialists to both develop and to follow up on qualified sales leads with a sense of urgency.
  • Develop a deep understanding of state and school district education priorities, funding sources, decision making processes, technology infrastructure, and policies (including vendor legal requirements, product evaluation committees, etc.).
  • Represent the overall company message, identify customer needs, and match product capabilities to needs. Propose and refine solutions based upon iterative conversations with customers regarding their education goals, technology infrastructure, budget, and implementation priorities and timeline. Manage every aspect of the customers’ evaluation and purchase process to ensure target close dates are achieved.
  • Maintain a sales pipeline of at least 3X quota for the current quarter and year. Actively work opportunities for all Scientific Learning products concurrently (Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant).
  • Develop coordinated strategies with the Strategic Account Specialist and Customer Success Managers as a team to ensure a high rate of renewals in assigned accounts, expansions, and new business across territory.
  • Forecast all sales opportunities accurately by adhering to guidelines and keeping all information such as account notes and productivity metrics up-to-date every week using the Salesforce CRM.
  • Thoughtfully manage company resources by adhering to T&E guidelines / budget and by submitting and reporting all expenses semi-monthly.

K-12 Educational sales experience and school district relationships preferred.

Four-year college degree required (public school teaching experience a plus).

Proven track record of consultative sales experience with complex, multiple buyer accounts; selling technology products to schools or state and local governments preferred.

Must be technology and Internet proficient

Must be able to work in a team environment.

The work environment is typically indoors with occasional outdoor during travel and is usually quiet to moderate noise.
