Over the past few years, Zearn’s Academic Team - which resides under Zearn’s Chief Academic Officer (CAO) – has expanded in both scope of work and number of team members, and we are looking to continue this growth. Zearn is seeking a talented educator who is passionate about standards, curriculum, and instruction and how these areas can support Zearn Math in providing students a rigorous and engaging experience.

The Academic Manager will be an essential addition to the Academic Team., working directly under Zearn’s Academic Director, and helping expand the reach of Zearn Math through deep analysis projects that require sustained focus, drive, and perseverance. The ultimate goal of this work is to ensure Zearn Math is a viable curricular offering in every state.

What you’ll do:

In this role, you will be responsible for;

helping the Academic Team stay abreast of the current landscape of mathematics standards and curricular choices. This work includes completing semi-annual reviews to check the status of each state’s standards and any revision processes states might be conducting, leading to the analysis of any new set of state standards in comparison to the standards for which Zearn Math was written. In addition to standards alignment, you will also be responsible for recommending ways we can position Zearn Math as a core complement in the mathematics classroom. Finally, you will assist in the curriculum review process (e.g., EdReports and individual state IMR processes), researching the expectations of each review process and auditing Zearn Math against those expectations.

The Academic Manager will help Zearn reach its goal of being seen as a viable curricular option in all 50 states. To meet this goal, you will:

  • Review state standards and compare them to the standards on which Zearn Math was built, clearly articulating similarities and differences
  • The final output of this work is a state-specific alignment guide 
  • Review expectations of HQIM related to high stakes review processes
  • Investigate where Zearn Math might need to make edits/additions to meet identified expectations and be prepared to provide suggestions for improved alignment
  • Research and stay abreast of curricular trends related to HQIM in mathematics
  • Audit Zearn Math’s curricular materials against latest trends

What You’ll Bring:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in math education
  • Experience analyzing various sets of standards and comparing them to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Ability to think deeply about math standards
  • Experience reviewing/evaluating curricular materials (e.g., serving on a curriculum adoption committee)
  • Experience writing and/or evaluating assessments a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines

Location:

This role is remote, but you may be asked to travel to our New York City office periodically for team building when it reopens.
