Peninsula Bridge - Multiple Locations - Part time

Peninsula Bridge is seeking experienced, passionate educators for our After School Academy at various sites across the Peninsula. (September 2023 - May 2024)

Open positions include 4th grade, 5th grade, 6/7th Math and 6/7th ELA at the following locations:

Menlo School: Atherton, CA (Monday and Wednesday 4:00 - 6:00pm)

Crittenden Middle School: Mountain View, CA (Monday and Wednesday 4:00 - 6:00pm)

Nueva School: San Mateo, CA (Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 - 6:00pm)

Synapse School: Menlo Park, CA (Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 - 6:00pm)

Job Description

Instructors will teach a class of 12-18 students using the Peninsula Bridge curriculum. The lessons integrate academic content (ELA, Math and STEM), social emotional learning (SEL) and executive functioning skills to promote grade-appropriate academic readiness. The after school curriculum is hands-on, globally oriented, and based on Common Core standards. There is no curricula design required and only minimal pre and post-planning. All lesson plans and materials will be prepared and provided by Peninsula Bridge.

Classes meet two times per week in the academic year (September-May) during after school hours. Instructors are responsible for being well prepared for all sessions and for reading all communications (lesson plans, email announcements, etc.) In addition to teaching, there are monthly site meetings, 2-3 training sessions outside of the regularly scheduled program time, and monthly lesson observation debriefs. At the conclusion of the program, instructors will grade assessments and provide narrative comments for students.

Instructors are part of a site-based team with four to five other teachers, two Site Coordinators who are also full-time Peninsula Bridge Staff, and a shared Instructional Coach. Instructors report to the Director of Middle School Programs.

  • Engaging, high energy, caring and strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural humility
  • Highly developed understanding of child and/or adolescent development
  • Creative, adaptable, and able to manage multiple objectives at one time; the ideal candidate must be nimble and proactive and have the ability to be responsive in the face of student fatigue or disengagement
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, families, volunteers, and visitors
  • Experience working with diverse learners
  • Effective organization skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing
  • Full Covid-19 vaccination required
  • CA teaching credential desired
  • Experience with first-generation students desired

Additional information

  • This is a position based on hourly pay. Compensation is:
    • $75/hr. for Direct Teaching Hours
    • $35/hr. for Administrative Tasks (trainings, teacher meetings, assessment)
  • There are an average of 30 sessions per semester (September-December and January-May.)
  • We observe school holidays and in-service days. These are unpaid.
