Instructional Designer, Instructional Design Team

Job Summary:

The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively with Instructional Design team members, school administrators, Program Directors and adjunct and full-time faculty to design, develop and deliver effective teaching and learning experiences through the integration of instructional design, pedagogical theory, and educational technologies.

In partnership with faculty, the Instructional Designer will manage the course design and development of a number of courses each semester for approved online and hybrid programs at USF . Day to day responsibilities will include: Developing and conducting faculty training and consultations; Partnering with faculty to develop learning objectives, ensure alignment between program and course outcomes and assessment, and design engaging learning content and activities; Overseeing the production and integration of multimedia course content; Providing guidance on online instruction; Reviewing courses against University quality and compliance standards; and leading and contributing to special projects as they arise.

The Instructional Designer will also act as a liaison to 1-3 Schools and Colleges at USF , providing a suite of instructional design services including 1:1 consultations, workshops and course design support and partnering on strategic, School-based learning and teaching with technology initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

Course Design and Development

  • Partner with faculty to develop course learning objectives, ensure alignment between program and course outcomes and assessment, and design engaging learning content and activities leveraging research-based instructional design and pedagogical principles.
  • Leverage research and peer examples to effectively articulate to faculty what is possible for their course.
  • Utilize diverse influencing styles to persuade faculty in the value of using best practices.
  • Work with Program Directors to establish customized course quality and design standards for courses in a program.
  • Project manage the course development process to ensure on-time delivery of courses, including conducting weekly consultations with faculty.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the planning and development of customized audio/video and other multimedia course content.
  • Lead post-production reviews to evaluate course quality and identify opportunities for future improvements.
  • Maintain University standards for online learning pedagogy, educational technologies, instructional design procedures, regulatory requirements, and faculty and staff training and support in the course development process.
  • Instructional Design

  • Partner with assigned Schools and Colleges to develop, deliver and evaluate strategic, School-based learning and teaching with technology initiatives.
  • Design, develop and publish training materials, self-help guides, blog post and other resources for faculty.
  • Stay current on instructional design, online, hybrid and technology-enhanced course development models and educational technology trends and issues.
Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in Teaching, Instructional Design and Technology, Curriculum Development or related field experience
  • 3+ years experience in developing online, hybrid and technology-enhanced learning experiences and courses.
  • 1+ years working with faculty on course development.
  • Experience teaching in K-12 or Higher Education; Online or hybrid teaching experience a plus.
  • Experience using a learning management system and other educational technologies to support online learning.
  • Knowledge and Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate pedagogy, andragogy and instructional design principles for online, hybrid and technology-enhanced learning.
  • Proficiency in developing engaging online, hybrid and technology-enhanced learning activities and content.
  • Proficiency in the use of LMS functionality, reporting, and course management; Knowledge of the Canvas LMS a plus.
  • Proficiency in utilizing industry-leading learning technologies and content providers such as Camtasia, Zoom, Qualtrics, PollEverywhere and Lynda.com.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL ) principles and familiarity with WCAG 2.0 guidelines and law governing Universities with regards to accessibility.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects in a highly organized fashion with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and dispassionately accept constructive feedback.
  • Thorough knowledge of issues and trends in online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced teaching in Higher Education.
