2019-2020: 6-8th Grade Assistant Principal

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced teacher leader to join our team as an 6-8th Grade Assistant Principal . We have a preference for applicants with coaching and/or teaching experience in 6-8th grade, but we will consider all applicants with experience in K-12th grade. You will build strong relationships with the teachers you coach in order to drive the achievement of all students. You will use Caliber teacher evaluation rubrics to drive the professional growth of your teachers. You will integrate social-emotional framework into coaching conversations to drive equitable support of all students.

Coaching

  • Provide coaching to lead science and math teachers (instructionally and behaviorally), with coaching support from Leadership Team
  • Long-term planning/ Scope and Sequencing
  • Model lessons in classrooms
  • Lead Data Meetings
  • Support the instructional development of teachers, including meeting needs of Tier 1, 2, and 3 students (instructionally and behaviorally)
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction, behavior management, planning and interventions that target both academics and behavior
  • Work closely with Leadership Team to develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs
  • Create and facilitate Professional Development sessions
  • Whole school systems support (arrival, dismissal, classroom coverage, lunch/recess, school events)
  • Conduct Restorative Practices with 5th-8th grade students
  • Co-create and implement informational workshops for families on instructional (Math, Science, etc.) topics/practices so they can better support their students’ work

Student Support Systems (SST)

  • Oversee SST process for academic and behavioral supports, with support from Leadership Team and SPED Team
  • Create interventions with teachers, collect data, and monitor data to ensure no students are “slipping through the cracks,” both academically and behaviorally.
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, Leadership Team, and families to support individual students and their families in both academics and behavior.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons to differentiate and incorporate interventions for students in the SST process
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with staff and families throughout the SST process for an individual student
  • Meet with other Leaders to share best practices and align

Data

  • Conduct and Support Staff with Data Meetings
  • Support teachers and work with Leadership Team and SPED Team to use data to improve instruction on all levels
  • Track individual student’s data to monitor progress of students in SST process
  • Use Deans List and Emote data to support teachers and students

Professionalism

  • Available for early morning and late evening meetings
  • Flexible and adaptable in the face of challenges
  • Arrives at work no later than 7:30 am
  • Holds courageous conversations when needed
  • Supports with arrival/dismissal/lunch/recess
  • Open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Participation on Leadership Team and attends weekly meetings
  • Works closely and collaboratively with Assistant Principal, Clinicians, Special Education team and teachers to support grade level and whole school systems

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Cleared Credential
  • At least 3 years of content related experience by end of current school year
  • Taken on a Leadership position (GLC, led a committee, coached a teacher)
  • Significant evidence of student growth (Interim Assessments, MAP data, SBAC, Summative Assessments, Benchmark Data)
  • Strong leaderships skills in building classroom culture and implementation of SEL practices
