Project Background: The EMPowerSF project is one of the district’s largest, most complex strategic efforts currently underway. SFUSD will transform core operations by implementing innovative fiscal and human capital management systems, utilizing SuccessFactors core suite of applications including Recruiting, Onboarding, Employee Central, Time & Attendance, Payroll, and Benefits. A cross-functional project team from Human Resources, Department of Technology, Business Services, and external implementation support conducted an initial go-live of Recruiting and Onboarding in January 2021, with a subsequent go-live for remaining functionality in January 2022.

The EmpowerSF Functional Architect will serve as the long-term functional solution lead for the district’s SAP platform, accountable for long-term solution health, maintenance, and continuous improvement to the solution over time. This position will be part of the DoT’s Business Applications team and work cross-functionally across the SFUSD’s Technology, Business Services, and Human Resources divisions. This role will understand the high-level functionality and interdependencies of the solution (SAP SuccessFactors) from both a technical and business perspective, approaching the role with a systems mindset and the ability to break down complex challenges into concrete actions and solutions.

We want a Functional Architect who will:

  • Serve as the central lead/product manager for the EMPowerSF system.
  • Understand, evaluate, and evolve the cross-department, cross-module processes and technologies in support of changing district needs.
  • Lead critical maintenance activities such as patch acceptance and release management.
  • Collaborate with business teams to develop and drive the vision for the technology and processes, evolving and enhancing the solution over time, and helping leverage new development and functionality.
  • Responsible for understanding and interpreting end user requirements and translating those requirements into well architected solutions and designs.

  • Manage the strategic solution evolution that aligns business team goals with solutions and maintain the EMPowerSF solution roadmap
  • Proactively identify opportunities for the EMPowerSF solution (technology and processes) to meet additional business needs.
  • Lead planning efforts for additional phases of solution implementation, with input and direction from technology and process owners.
  • Lead the maintenance and release activities for the technology solution. Conduct proactive release planning, testing, and execution.

Manage to Results

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the technology solution; understand the technical architecture, integrations, and systems involved in the EMPowerSF solution at a high level.
  • Track and manage enhancement request backlog.
  • Monitor solution usage and support requests; identify areas for improvement.
  • Track the vendor product roadmap.
  • Coordinate the acceptance and execution of patches from the software vendor, across business and technology teams.
  • Coordinate the acceptance and execution of releases from the software vendor, across business and technology teams.
  • Review, approve, and sometimes design configuration changes that are cross-functional or data impacting.
  • Develop and monitor business processes using analysis and project management skills

Manage Teams

  • Coordinate and facilitate execution of governance model activities, including collaboration with Steering Committee members
  • Maintain relations with Experience in one or more of the core functional areas: HR or Business Services

Manage Relationships

  • Facilitate ongoing solution governance and drives clarity of roles expectations for Technical System Administrators, Functional System Administrators, and Super Users or other module leads.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing solution governance meetings.
  • Serve as the point of contact for software vendors as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT, business/education industry experience, and project or product management, with an experience in managing teams and cross-functional efforts/projects, influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders is strongly preferred
  • Consulting experience a plus
  • Significant experience with project management working with data and security system integrations
  • Experience managing large-scale, cloud-based enterprise software projects
  • Familiarity with human capital software such as SAP, SuccessFactors, Workforce, Oracle, or PeopleSoft

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of related work experience
  • BA/BS from an accredited institution in a related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $111,995.52 - $140,786.88 commensurate with experience in a similar position.
