As the 1053 Senior Business Analyst, Payroll, you will report to the Director of Business Applications, be a part of the Department of Technology, and serve as the technical lead for Payroll the district’s new, integrated HR andPayroll system powered by SAP SuccessFactors and Workforce. You will contribute to the Department of Technology’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives. as well as our long-term, city-wide north star, Vision 2025. We’re seeking a candidate with a strong technical background who can bridge functional and technical requirements for SAP/SuccessFactors and Workforce implementation to ensure the platforms meets the functional and user needs of SFUSD’s employee community. The 1053 Senior Business Analyst for EMPowerSF Payroll leads the technical functions of Payroll that have stringent deadlines and tight schedule. This is a new role established as a result of evolving needs and new required tasks following the district’s system change, reorganization, and transferred responsibilities.

  • Consults with managerial personnel and customers to recommend technological solutions to issues impacting business operations
  • Act as a technical lead for SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll.
  • Help develop and manage the execution of robust test plans, including utilizing software testing tools to perform unit, system integration, and user acceptance testing and manage the execution of robust test plans
  • Develops specifications and workflow changes/enhancements and minor configurations to the SAP system and payroll processing to strengthen workflows for greater efficiency under the guidance of the Payroll management staff and Department of Technology Business Applications management, and in alignment with EMPowerSF governance.
  • Provides technical support, direction, and training to Payroll Operations staff members in implementing changes to workflow procedures.
  • Liaise with functional divisions, including HR and Payroll, for functional enhancements, new functionality, and to provide ongoing support
  • Provide targeted support to HR Leaves and Payroll to ensure leaves of absence are configured and managed accurately to result in accurate and timely pay
  • Reviews and monitors data interfaces between Payroll and Accounting
  • Analyzes, monitors, and identifies defects with the payroll system functionality and works cross-functionally with functional and technical teams to test fixes and enhancements configured in the system.

  • Manage and monitor data uploads and data interfaces to ensure timely accessibility to data needed to run functional operations for SFUSD employees
  • Serves as Payroll technical lead for critical system updates and monitors timely implementation of SAP SuccessFactor releases and support packs.
  • Develop reports and visualizations for functional teams to analyze employee needs
  • Identify opportunities for improvement or automation of current business practices and policies
  • Handle tickets in Zendesk, providing Tier 2/3 assistance and analysis for end users, managers, and power users
  • Draft and maintain system and application documentation
  • Use data to improve processes and operations to continuously improve upon existing practices
  • Communicate technical concepts to a general audience and other non-technical team members
  • Represents Payroll Administration as the SAP technical lead in external meetings and activities.
  • Recommends and supports decisions, follows through with instructions, and ensures deadlines are met.
  • Provide ongoing support for EMPowerSF HR and Payroll documentation and training guides

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with administering SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll
  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll certifications (if not certified, certification will be required once onboarded)
  • Proficiency with Crystal Reports
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into user-friendly, accessible language
  • Experience in implementing new systems and tools and/or systems consolidation
  • The ability to build strong working relationships and support a positive work environment
  • Experience in data visualization (ie: Tableau)
  • An organized, efficient, on-time, cost-conscious perspective that seeks to continuously improve
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].

Experience: Three (3) years in the information systems field, including system analysis, business process design, development and implementation of business application solutions or IT project management. License and Certification: Substitution: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $110,496.88 - $134,296.44commensurate with experience in a similar position.
