1053 Senior Business Analyst - Department of Technology

As the 1053 Senior Business Analyst you will report to the Director of Product Design, be a part of the Department of Technology, and serve as a technical lead in developing digital tools and resources to improve the use of student systems by SFUSD staff, families, and students. You will contribute to the Department of Technology’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives. as well as our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision 2025. We want someone who will lead the execution of our product roadmaps through strong technical solutions that meet user needs.

We expect our 1053 Senior Business Analyst will:

  • Lead and support the technical aspects of the enrollment system in SFUSD including the student assignment system process and the Online Application
  • Conduct system analysis and user requirements for enrollment enhancements for our users
  • Help develop and manage the execution of robust test plans including unit testing and user acceptance testing
  • Liaise with the Educational Placement Center (EPC) for new functionality, provide ongoing support
  • Collaborate with the Educational Placement Center (EPC) to ensure the enrollment process is timely and successful
  • Help execute on a shared vision of a modern, robust, integrated, easy-to-use system providing clean, valuable, actionable data
  • Work with various central office departments in addition to the EPC to implement improved tools and processes with our systems; support users on newly implemented functionality
  • Design and implement new features; review impact of system modifications on existing systems
  • Develop reports and visualizations for users to analyze student needs; develop SSRS and Siren reports for central office departments using SQL
  • Identify opportunities for improvement or automation of current business practices and policies
  • Handle tickets in Zendesk, providing Tier 2/3 assistance and analysis for end users, managers, and power users
  • Draft and maintain system and application documentation
  • Use data to improve processes and operations to continuously improve upon existing practices
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a general audience and other non-technical team members
  • Provide data visualization and analysis of Student Information (SIS), enrollment, and other data issues and work to provide solutions
  • Provide ongoing support for Student Information Systems (SIS) documentation as needed

Desired Qualifications

The strongest candidates will have:

  • A team focus with a coachable and approachable workstyle
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with SIREN and SSRS; Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience in implementing new systems and tools and/or systems consolidation
  • The ability to build strong working relationships and support a positive work environment
  • Experience in data visualization (ie: Tableau)
  • An organized, efficient, on-time, cost-conscious perspective that seeks to continuously improve
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S) in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units
  • Three (3) years of professional-level experience in technology or information systems field, including system analysis, business process design, development and implementation of business application solutions and/or IT project management
