0991 Digital Learning Program Manager

San Francisco Unified School District - San Francisco, California - Full time

As the Digital Learning Program Manager (0991) you will report to the Director of Digital Learning and Enablement in the Department of Technology and be a district leader in operationalizing and expanding promising practices for digital learning and technology-enabled personalized learning for students. You will help to lead DoT’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives. as well as our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision 2025.

This role will be responsible for envisioning and enacting two key drivers of success for Vision 2025: equitable access to technology and re-imagined pedagogy. You will help shape our District-wide pedagogical strategy and instructional practice, including digital, blended and personalized learning. You will help us build equity of access and equity of opportunity to enable students to thrive in the 21st century. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Digital Learning and Enablement, the Executive Director of Projects and Partnerships, and the Chief Technology Officer.

Job Duties

Demonstrate a Leadership Mindset

  • Lead the Digital Learning Team in the implementation and coherence of its core digital learning initiatives including:
    • The Digital Learning Facilitator (DLeaF) program, empowering site-based technology leads to design and manage digital learning implementation and opportunities at their school sites.
    • The Personalized Learning Environments (PLE) pilot program, creating models for technology-enabled personalized learning environments that transform and deepen student learning for our African American and focal students.

Manage to Results

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the Department of Technology’s (DoT) Digital Learning and Enablement team to:
    • Embed the effective use of technology into instruction to personalize student learning
    • Develop and provide associated professional development for teachers and administrators
    • Provide guidance to principals and departments on the use and integration of technology in classrooms for instructional effectiveness and to personalize instruction
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods to develop resources to be implemented by educators in service of technology-enabled deeper learning.
  • Evaluate and curate resources for developing curriculum and technology implementation that can be tailored for individual site needs.
  • Write clear, succinct and persuasive copy for websites, online courses and other training materials, social media, videos and email newsletters to foster integration of technology in SFUSD classrooms; proofread and edit content as needed or directed
  • Partner with research and evaluation providers to conduct instructional research and analysis on the impact of digital learning initiatives
  • Research and keep abreast of educational technology trends and emerging technologies as related to digital learning

Manage Teams

  • Managing direct reports in the coordination of digital learning initiatives and partner closely with the Personalized Learning Environments Program Manager to engage the entire Digital Learning and Enablement team in the design and implementation of the DLeaF and PLE initiatives.

Manage Relationships

  • Coordinate across the Department of Technology, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, LEAD, and other District departments to operationalize the deployment and support of digital learning to improve instructional coherence.

This is a Permanent Exempt (PEX) appointment type.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S) in instructional design, educational technology, or related field from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
  • Two (2) years of professional-level experience in a large, urban school district, or human resources department, or other educational setting
  • Passion for facilitating the achievement of equity for underserved students and experience in effecting systemic change

Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.

Desired Qualifications

  • Work within and consistently meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership and anti-racist practices as levers toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
  • A strong record of managing organizational change, initiating key innovations and exercising flexibility within the ever-changing landscape of education and digital learning
  • Strong analytic and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
  • Experience using technology in the classroom to enable deeper learning and student agency
  • Experience with school district deployment projects desired.
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of adult learning principles, methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in urban education as a teacher and an instructional coach with excellent knowledge of learning theories, digital learning and instructional design models
  • Awareness of how special populations can be supported to thrive in the core curricula through leveraging technology
