Brief Biography

Idit is the founder and CEO of Globaloria. Making computing and STEM learning fun through game design and coding. Globaloria courses spark students' imaginations as they learn to design and code educational games through a mix of teacher-led instruction, team-based learning and online networking with experts and peers. They marry school content learning with mastery of coding and computing.

Prior to that, Idit founded the World Wide Workshop as her education innovation incubator, for developing learning platforms to disrupt education with a focus on utilizing game mechanics and social networking with blended learning. Its flagship platform, Globaloria, has empowered with its courses 800 educators and school leaders, and 17,000 students in 14 states to date, to become computational inventors, digital citizens, and leaders in the global knowledge economy. Idit's first startup MaMaMedia, was the first born-on-the-net brand for digital kids (and their families) and won numerous awards and recognitions. Idit is a social entrepreneur, contemporary learning theorist, education activist and opinion leader, award-winning author, mentor of young entrepreneurs, and trailblazer in game-based learning and constructionist MOOCs for K-12.

Her 1991 book, Children Designers, won the Outstanding Book Award by the American Education Research Association (AERA). Her second book, edited with Seymour Papert, Constructionism, is the first volume out of the Media Lab to advance the idea that computation gives rise to a new science of learning with expressive media. Her learning video-documentaries, published articles and research reports have been pioneering a new way of deploying deep STEM learning through game design and coding.

Idit holds a BA cum laude from Tel Aviv University, EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a PhD from MIT Media Lab. She has taught at MIT and East China Normal University in Shanghai, and has been serving as Advisor to MIT Media Lab, Harvard GSE, CUNY Macaulay Honors College, CU-ATLAS, ECNU, BNU, PBSkids, TFI New Media Fund, MEET, TIG, Saybot. Find her thought-provoking blogs on Huffington Post, Getting Smart, Edutopia and EdSurge. Idit and her company Globaloria received multiple awards; she was the 2010 Recipient of the Jessie McCanse Award for Individual Contribution to Media Literacy, and in 2012 she was named a Disruptor Foundation Fellow.
