Maker Movement: From Me to We - We Can Change the World!

Project-Based Learning Across the Disciplines

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 to Friday, June 9, 2017

With attendance limited to 200, the Innovation Institute will offer participants from your school a unique, personalized, and boutique conference experience. This year’s event will feature several renowned keynote speakers. Colleen Graves is a high school librarianwho holds the distinction of being named an “Innovator” in the Library Journal Mover and Shaker Class of 2016 and author of The Big Book of Makerspace Projects and Challenged-Based Learning in the School Library Makerspace. Josh Burker is an expert maker, teacher, and author of the popular book The Invent to Learn Guide to Fun and will lead a hands-on pre-conference workshop and opening keynote.

In order to facilitate inspiration, reflection, growth, and dynamic discussion, the Innovation Institute is structured to strike a balance between active learning in extended hands-on workshops, compact listen-and-learn INSPIRE sessions, and participant-driven learning. During these workshops, attendees will work side by side with some of the most talented educators in the country, each with extensive experience integrating maker education, innovation, computer science, and learning technologies into core academic disciplines. Administrators, technologists, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders will share strategies to build teachers’ capacity for success and grow the maker mindset within your community.

During the Innovation Institute, participants will also hear from Pine Crest School’s iTeam (experts in innovation and technology) and, classroom entrepreneurs, and some of the nation’s leading experts in maker education. Attendees will be able to take advantage of ample opportunities to network and dialogue with their peers, explore different methods of innovation, and ultimately bring home new ideas for electrifying learning in their respective schools. Thank you for considering the Innovation Institute as part of your summer professional development plan. I am confident that all participants will leave Pine Crest with an array of inquiry-based activities to ensure our students are the changemakers of tomorrow.
