The STEAM Symposium is the largest event of its kind in California.  Visit to learn more.

The California STEAM Symposium brings together more than 3,000 teachers, administrators, students, higher-education representatives, program providers, and philanthropic and industry partners to learn how to improve STEAM teaching in schools and throughout communities. A keystone event in a year-round effort to support statewide STEAM education improvements, this is the place to discover practical strategies, new ideas, resources and curriculum for best-practices implementation from the classroom to the boardroom.

It is an energizing professional development conference with inspiring keynote speakers and peer-led workshops highlighting leaders in STEAM education innovation from across California. There is an interactive, hands-on Makerspace to promote creativity and making, and student-led demonstrations which attract teams to share STEAM projects emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.

This year marks the 7th annual Symposium, an initiative of Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation co-hosted by the California Department of Education and the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls. We also continue to spotlight access and inclusion for all while elevating girls and students of color as future leaders– principles core to our shared success.

Keynote Speaker Lineup:

-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, former NBA superstar, in a fireside chat with State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond

-Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina in space
