Bridging the Reading Gap

Online Apr 22 10:00 am to 11:00 am - Pacific Time (US & Canada)

Price: Free

Students who struggle to read face many learning challenges. COVID-19 and distance learning has threatened to widen reading and learning gaps for struggling readers, especially in our most vulnerable communities.

Megan Shanley is an Occupational Therapist who works as an Assistive Technology Specialist at Albuquerque Public Schools. New Mexico’s largest school district. More than 50% of the students in Megan's district receive free or reduced cost lunches, two-thirds of the students are Hispanic, and a large number of her students have a range of disabilities. Most lack access to technology. Megan will share how she uses tools like Bookshare, a FREE tool, to support students with dyslexia, visual impairment, and physical disabilities.

Then, stay for a hands on demonstration of Bookshare, where our staff will show you how to make the most of your Bookshare account and get your students reading. All attendees will have the opportunity to log onto and participate in guided instruction.

This event is for district staff and educators in underserved schools, who support students with reading barriers such as general and special education, related services and school administrators.

Live captions with StreamText will be available during the event.
