Carolyn Torres

Carolyn is in her 24th year of teaching and currently teaches in Los Alamos Public Schools in New Mexico. She was the 2014 New Mexico State Teacher of the Year.

Brief Biography

Carolyn Torres received a BA in Chemistry and Studio art from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1990. She received her Masters degree in Secondary Education with a Math minor from UNM in 1992. She is working on her doctorate through Walden University. She is in her 24th year of teaching. She taught at Santa Fe High School, Bernalillo Middle School, and Los Alamos where she is currently teaching. She was at the middle school for 8 years and now is at Chamisa Elementary School teaching 3rd grade.

Carolyn has remained a National Board Certified Teacher since 1995 when National Board Certification began. She is married and has 4 children who currently are in the Los Alamos schools. Her hobbies include silk painting and watercolor painting. Carolyn has been an active math coach, mentor, and teacher. She was a national NSF Coalition of Essential Schools Fellow, a Master Teacher for the New Mexico Electronic Bridge Project , a Founding member of the Education Plus Academy Charter School (in Pennsylvania), and also represented New Mexico when she worked with the national PARCC Performance Level Descriptor committee. Carolyn Torres is the 2014 New Mexico State Teacher of the Year.
