DreamBox Shows Sweet Results in SRI Study

Aug 4, 2011

SWEET DREAMBOX: A 16-week study conducted last fall by SRI International of K-1 students at Rocketship Education showed that those who used DreamBox Learning's math games scored 2.3 points higher on a Northwest Evaluation Association test than those who didn't. Some 583 students in three Rocketship schools in San Jose took part in the study. More details here. Rocketship's chief schools officer, Aylon Samouha, told EdSurge the organization is shifting its strategy to better align what students are getting in the Learning Lab with what teachers are covering in the classroom. This means that in the tug-of-war between "let kids go at their own pace" and "unify the scaffolding," Rocketship, which has leaned hard to the latter in the last three years, is now shifting a bit to the former. As we've mentioned in past issues, "assignability" is a key requirement for Rocketship's software choices going forward. Stay tuned for more studies: Rocketship has hired Jan Faraguna, a 2011 Education Pioneer, to delve into the effectiveness of individual lessons.
