Knewton and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Bring Adaptive Learning to Incarcerated Youths

Nov 20, 2012

RISK MITIGATION: Knewton and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt are teaming up to deliver an adaptive learning program to incarcerated youths with the goal of teaching them the basic skills in math, science, and language arts that they will need to transition to schools and careers. The content, which comes from HMH's SkillsTutor program, will be "powered" by Knewton's adaptive learning platform that will crunch the data so as to identify what areas need extra work, and in this way personalize the curriculum for the users. The Consortium for Educational Excellence in Secure Settings, led by education directors from juvenile justice agencies in eleven states, plans to monitor the program's implementation and progress. No specifics on where they're trying out the program first, but they've got high hopes to reach the 3.5 million in the juvenile justice system.
